Lubbock Independent School District’s (Lubbock ISD) Coronado High School has named Caroline Wood as head coach of the Lady Mustangs volleyball program for the 2026-2027 academic year. A seasoned educator and coach with a deep-rooted history in Texas volleyball, Wood brings a wealth of championship experience and a proven track record of student-athlete development to the Coronado community.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Wood to the Mustang family," said Mike Meeks, Lubbock ISD Executive Director of Athletics. "Her local ties to Lubbock, combined with her experience at the middle school, high school and collegiate levels, make her the perfect leader to take our volleyball program to the next level."
Wood will lead a volleyball program at CHS that has a history of success, including appearances in district playoffs over the past two years. She joins the Mustangs from Lubbock-Cooper High School, where she served as a varsity assistant volleyball coach. During her tenure at Lubbock-Cooper, she was instrumental in helping lead the team to historic heights, including:
2024 regional finalist, marking the first time in school history.
2022 and 2023 back-to-back District Championships and Regional Semifinalist finishes.
Tournament titles in San Angelo, Bastrop and Wolfforth.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead the volleyball program,” Wood said. “I’d like to thank the leadership at Coronado High School and Lubbock ISD for the trust they’ve placed in me. I’m really looking forward to meeting the girls and am excited for the upcoming season.”
With over a decade of teaching and coaching experience across Texas — including in Mansfield, Bellville and Lubbock — Wood has dedicated her career to fostering discipline, teamwork and excellence in student-athletes.
Wood’s coaching philosophy is built on a foundation of high-level playing experience. She played for Texas Tech University (2008–2010), where she earned Second Team All-Academic Big 12 Honors and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Sciences. Her collegiate career also includes a successful stint at Blinn Junior College, where she was named to the NJCAA Regional All-Tournament Team.
Wood is originally from Brenham, Texas, where she was a standout athlete in volleyball, and soccer, and a state champion softball player. She and her husband, Kris, have one son, Adam.
