Our 5th grade students gained hands-on insights into electrical energy and circuits last week as local electrician Frank Miller shared his expertise and discussed various career opportunities in the electrical field. Miller demonstrated essential tools and techniques, giving students a practical view of the profession. Students then applied their classroom knowledge by creating flashlights, reinforcing their understanding of circuits in a real-world context. Incredible!

5TH GRADE PARENTS!!! It's time to start thinking about middle school! Check out these opportunities to go visit middle schools at their open houses!

What do you do when your teacher hands you 1 battery, 1 bulb, and 1 wire? Figure out how to make the light shine, that’s what!
Wheelock 5th graders got to apply their knowledge of circuits as they problem solved with teammates to make their circuits work!

HUGE thanks to our special guests who came to read to our 2nd graders today as part of United Way's United We Read! Our students had the opportunity to hear The Dot read aloud and create a fun craft!

As we near the end of Amplify Unit 3 in 5th grade, students have been invited to complete extension projects to show off all of the fun things they have learned. We have been studying the Ancient Civilizations of the Aztec, Maya, and Inca people. One of the project opportunities involved researching a food and its recipe to present to the class. 5th grader Amy Yepez chose to research corn, as it was an important staple of the Maya civilization. She discovered that one of our favorite foods, TAMALES, can actually be linked back to Mayan Civilization. Amy used research strategies we have learned to write a recipe, asked her Abuela to help her, and she brought tamales to share with her homeroom class this morning! Our stomachs and brains are so grateful that Amy showed initiative and chose to share the knowledge she gained!

Mr. Bones joined some of our students today for a meditation moment followed by a reading lesson! He must be gearing up to join us for Spooky Stories night on Tuesday, October 29th! Hope to see you all there!

5th graders are exploring energy transformation and circuits by taking apart a flashlight and putting it back together to make it work again. In the flashlight system, the battery holds chemical energy, which turns into electrical energy when the circuit is complete. The bulb turns the electrical energy into light energy. Today’s lab really shed some light (get it!?) on energy changes in a flashlight system!!

Our sweet friends in Mrs. Day, Ms. Price, Mr. Duncum, Mr. Milam and Ms. Powell's class joined in the fun at At'l Do Farms last Friday, too! Smiles all around!

Mr. Chitsey, Ms. Smith and Ms. Lovett took their darling class to At'l Do Farms last Friday and their students had the BEST time!

Our Pre-Kers had the best time learning and exploring at At’l Do Farms this past Friday!

Our 5th graders got to take a little trip yesterday to Listen Live, where they heard the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra perform! What an amazing experience!

Have we mentioned how many amazing things we have happening in Art class! Check it out! Over the last week or so, 1st grade helped paint a banner for sushi week, students made taco sculptures and interacted with modeling clay!
