📊 Bond Fact Friday: What about the tax rate?
Although all bond ballot language in Texas must say “This is a property tax increase” —
✔ Lubbock ISD is not asking for a change to the tax rate in this election.
✔ The 2025 bond proposal is structured to keep Lubbock ISD’s tax rate the same under current law.
✔ The phrase appears because bonds authorize the district to issue debt—even if the tax rate doesn’t change. While new bonds do add to our overall debt portfolio, this bond does not require a change in the tax rate.
✔ Lubbock ISD’s total tax rate is the lowest in Lubbock County and is the lowest it’s been since 1993.

📍 What’s the impact on neighborhoods?
Here’s what we know:
✔ Many Lubbock ISD schools are in aging buildings with high maintenance costs
✔ The bond proposal includes replacing older campuses with modern schools designed to serve current and future students
✔ Our Lubbock ISD neighborhoods remain a priority—new buildings will continue to serve the same communities

📚✨ Happy School Librarian Appreciation Day! ✨📚
Today we’re celebrating the incredible work of all the school librarians who make a difference in our schools. We spoke to Rachel Hall-Mendez, an integral member of the Lubbock ISD family and the current library media specialist at Evans Middle School. Rachel’s dedication to her students and her passion for the library profession shine through in everything she does. “Being a school librarian means I get to open doors and windows to new worlds for students. Whether it’s helping a reluctant reader find the perfect book or guiding students in research, I love being a part of their journey of discovery. I love seeing their confidence grow as they develop a passion for reading and learning. The library is the heart of the school community. It’s a place where students, teachers, and families come together to learn, grow, and share stories that shape who we are.
To me, being a librarian isn’t just about curating a book collection — it’s about demonstrating that certified librarians are indispensable resources for our school communities. I want every single person who visits the library — students, teachers, parents, and community members to feel welcome — and to know that this is the place to come for valuable resources. We are the Evans Library — Where Eagles Soar!"
A huge thank you to all our district’s librarians for the invaluable role you play in our students’ educational and personal journeys.#WeAreLubbockISD
