Hands-on learning is critical in science education, but many of Lubbock ISD’s middle school science labs haven’t been updated in decades.
The 2025 bond proposal includes funding for middle school science lab renovations, which would:
✔ Provide modern lab spaces for hands-on experiments.
✔ Improve equipment and storage for science instruction.
✔ Support STEM learning and student engagement.
Upgrading these spaces would ensure students have the resources they need for interactive, inquiry-based learning in science.

💰 What can we use bond funds for?💰
School bond funds can only be used for specific projects!
Texas law requires school districts to separate funding into two categories:
✔ M&O (Maintenance & Operations) Tax Rate – Pays for salaries, classroom materials, and daily school operations.
✔ I&S (Interest & Sinking) Tax Rate – Used exclusively for voter-approved bonds to fund new buildings, major renovations, and infrastructure projects.
That means bond funds cannot be used for teacher salaries or daily operations—only for major capital projects like safety updates, facility improvements, and academic spaces.

Did you know? 63% of Lubbock ISD buildings are more than 60 years old. Maintaining older schools comes with higher costs for repairs, utilities, and upkeep—funds that could otherwise support students and classrooms.

✔ Replacing older schools with modern, more efficient buildings
✔ Upgrading infrastructure like HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems

The Byron Martin ATC hosted a law enforcement expo today bringing in several organizations like the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Marines, Lubbock SWAT, Texas State Troopers, and others. Student needs, technology, and safety standards have evolved, and our schools have changed along with them. Some of our oldest campuses were built more than 80 years ago, while newer buildings reflect updated designs for modern learning.
Bond elections have funded major facility updates over the years. The May 3, 2025, bond proposal allows voters to decide on additional facility improvements.
