Dear Lubbock ISD families & staff,

The Texas Education Agency requires all public schools in Texas to provide at least 75,600 minutes of instruction for students each school year. Any time a school day is canceled, started late or dismissed early, the district evaluates if there is a need for makeup days to ensure we meet the instructional minutes requirement for the school year.

After considering our three recent snow days (Friday, Monday and Tuesday of this week) and our late-start on Wednesday due to weather, we found that we will not need to make any schedule changes for our elementary and middle school students to meet the requirement. However, to ensure that we complete the required number of instructional minutes for our high school students, late-start Wednesdays are canceled for the rest of the spring semester, beginning this Wednesday (Feb. 4).

With this change, we will meet the instructional minutes requirement for all students across the district. This means that we will not need to use the student holiday on March 23 or the student and staff holiday on April 6 as makeup days – for now, these will remain as holidays.

If we experience more inclement weather this spring that requires cancelations, delays or early dismissals, we will reevaluate at that time to determine if schedule changes and/or make up days are needed.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Amanda Castro-Crist in our Communications & Community Relations department at (806) 219-0014.

Sincerely,
Dr. Kathy Rollo
Superintendent, Lubbock ISD

Parents,
The Estacado Band staff and Dunbar administration are working on a plan to add 8th grade students to the Estacado Matador Marching Band for the 25-26 football and marching season. Starting next week, we ask that any 8th graders who wish to learn percussion and be a part of the EHS Drumline and Front Ensemble join us for Percussion camp July 21st-25th from 10am-3pm. The following week, we will have full band camp and would like all 8th graders in band to join us pending updated physicals.

Good morning parents. This year, 8th graders who do not pass one or more subjects of the recent STAAR test will be invited to attend summer school at their feeder (projected) high school Tuesday, June 3rd-June 19th from 8:00-12:00 Mondays-Thursdays. While the district won’t receive students’ STAAR scores until May 30th, we want to make you aware of this possibility now to assist in your summer planning. Students who attend will receive Accelerated Instruction in their area of need. Bus transportation will be provided from each middle school to the feeder high school and students will receive both breakfast and lunch. We will send you notification through the mail for those that need to attend.
