Why an All-Girls' School?

What Makes Talkington Special?

Research shows that our model for girls' schools works to increase women in STEM fields, women in higher leadership positions, and women who are both willing and prepared to solve global problems.

The magic of Talkington appears in the enormous variety of opportunities we offer our students.

Here are the top 5 opportunities that make Talkington special:

  1. Travel and Training

At Talkington, all students in 6-12 will visit at least one college per year, with most visiting over 20 colleges by the time they graduate. In addition, each student may take a summer workshop or camp--fully paid for by Talkington. For example, all rising 7th graders spend a week in Junction learning teamwork and leadership skills. Further, we have many of our teams, from Destination Imagination to Mock Trial, who make it to state and national competitions and workshops. All 11th graders are invited to attend an educational tour of Washington, D.C., including many national monuments and laying the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

  1. Academic Enrichment

Students get weekly social-emotional learning lessons, but in addition to that, we offer Academic Enrichment days. On AE days, students do not attend their normal classes; instead, they choose from a variety of activities to enhance their learning. Some of the activities we have had on AE days are self-defense classes, therapy animal sessions, talent shows, student passion projects, community service, and many more.

  1. Fine Arts

In 2022, the fine arts wing of our school opened, including a state-of-the-art auditorium. Our fine arts programs are booming! We offer orchestra, piano, art, theater, and choir to students in grades 6-12. Our piano program has a partnership with Wayland Baptist University, which allows our students to be trained and coached by college professors.

  1. School Spirit and Tradition

We may be small, but we are mighty! We offer volleyball, basketball, and track and field on campus. Students in LISD are also able to go to swim and dive. In addition, in high school, students zoned to LISD can play sports at their home campuses. Our school spirit is alive and well, as are traditions like Homecoming, prom, letterman jackets, and the ring ceremony.

  1. Sisterhood and Teamwork

Students at Talkington support their sisters, which is part of the Student Creed we share on the morning announcements: "We are classmates by chance, sisters by choice." We love to celebrate successes as much as we pull together when things get tough. Teachers use collaboration often in the classrooms, and student organizations teach students to both lead and follow with heart.
