Help raise funds for our school! The Byron Martin ATC is on the list of schools when you scan the QR code. If you're going to grab coffee anyway, why not help out our school at the same time????

Representatives from the Lubbock Chapters of the Texas Restaurant Association were in the building today to visit with a few of our competitors prior to the annual Texas ProStart competition in Waco. At the Texas ProStart Invitational, students from across the state compete in a variety of culinary arts and hospitality management contests designed to ignite their passion and fuel their fire for the industry.
We are so thankful to our local TRA chapter for their continued financial support of our students, as well as the many job-related opportunities they offer. Our students and teachers are very fortunate to have such wonderful partners!

Students in our Law Enforcement Practicum class organized our annual Law and Public Safety Expo. Agencies from across the South Plains were in attendance to talk to all of our ATC students about what their department/agency does, as well as how to enter their workforce. Agencies were also able to speak with students about their specific roles in helping to ensure everyone's safety. Many thanks to our industry partners for continuing to support our staff and students!

Dear Lubbock ISD families & staff,
The Texas Education Agency requires all public schools in Texas to provide at least 75,600 minutes of instruction for students each school year. Any time a school day is canceled, started late or dismissed early, the district evaluates if there is a need for makeup days to ensure we meet the instructional minutes requirement for the school year.
After considering our three recent snow days (Friday, Monday and Tuesday of this week) and our late-start on Wednesday due to weather, we found that we will not need to make any schedule changes for our elementary and middle school students to meet the requirement. However, to ensure that we complete the required number of instructional minutes for our high school students, late-start Wednesdays are canceled for the rest of the spring semester, beginning this Wednesday (Feb. 4).
With this change, we will meet the instructional minutes requirement for all students across the district. This means that we will not need to use the student holiday on March 23 or the student and staff holiday on April 6 as makeup days – for now, these will remain as holidays.
If we experience more inclement weather this spring that requires cancelations, delays or early dismissals, we will reevaluate at that time to determine if schedule changes and/or make up days are needed.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Amanda Castro-Crist in our Communications & Community Relations department at (806) 219-0014.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kathy Rollo

Today, students in our EMT classes had the opportunity to visit AeroCare. Mr. Henry and his students heard from pilots, EMT's, and nurses about what takes place when they receive a call and how they serve our community in emergency situations. Thank you to AeroCare for having us out!

Congratulations to our very own Brenda Olden! Mrs. Olden is now recognized as a National Board Certified Teacher. Mrs. Olden has completed a variety of tasks over the past two years to earn this distinction. Fun fact: Only 3% of teachers in Texas have completed requirements to be recognized by the National Board. AND only .03% of those teachers are involved in Career and Technical Education. We are so very proud of Mrs. Olden and greatly appreciate all she does for our school and our students!

Today, our HVAC students and teachers honored Jim and Jodi Hamlin from South Plains TACCA for their generous support of our Lubbock ISD HVAC programs. Our students were fortunate enough to participate in TACCA's "Heat the Town" event, where local contractors service ACs and heaters for elderly citizens who don't have the means. Lubbock ISD students were helpers, serving over 70 deserving homes. Thanks Jim and Jodi for making this happen! And thank you to Mr Ramsey and Mr Martinez for ordaining this opportunity for our students!
