Congratulations to Sarah Chen, who won 2nd at the Nelda Hodges Young Artist Competition! It comes with a $1,000 scholarship prize. Special thanks to Mrs. Michelle Hodges Brookshire, one of the Directors of the Hodges Family Foundation, the benefactor of this competition. We are proud of her for continuing to enter these contests and excited for her success! Way to go!

Talkington ladies competed in the City Championships held at the Pete Ragus Aquatic Center last Saturday. We had a lot of fast swims and season best times throughout the meet. Here are the final results for individual events: Tate Stephenson-City Champion 100 free, 2nd place 100IM Lyndie Partain-4th 100 free (7th grade), 5th 50 free Ella Cummins-4th 100 free(8th grade), 5th 50 breaststroke Elizabeth Hernandez- 3rd 200 free, 5th 100 free (7th grade) Allison Phillips-13th 100 free, 16th 50 free Congratulations to all our swimmers on a great City Championship! They will all be traveling next week to Mansfield to compete in the Mansfield Middle School Invitational. Best of luck on your continued success, Warriors!

Spencer Hinkle, Gillian Hinkle, Ashleigh Buster, and Pema Dickson, outstanding Tumbling & Trampoline athletes, will compete at the STTA Championships this weekend in Amarillo, TX. All Around Girls Gymnasts Fiona Tian and Avarei Juarez-Herrera will compete in San Antonio at the State Meet for Xcel Gold Gymnastics! We can't wait to hear the results of these contests, and we are so proud of our Warriors! Best of luck, ladies!

Congratulations to two fabulous Talkington staff members: Teacher of the Year Mrs. Bell and Paraprofessional of the Year Mrs. Gonzalez! Our students, staff, and families are all so lucky they bring their talent and dedication to Talkington. Mrs. Bell makes a difference by showing genuine care and kindness everywhere she goes. Her art students show so much growth, and her colleagues lean on her for support. We are grateful that she continues to be such an important part of our community. Mrs. Gonzalez, our registrar, organizes and beautifies our front office, streamlines procedures, and supports everyone with so many events and projects. We appreciate her hard work! Blood Donors Needed! We have a critical shortage of blood in Lubbock, and we need it to save lives. Everyone in the community is invited to donate at our drive this Thursday from 9:30-12:30. Drink plenty of water that day and 24 to 48 hours beforehand. Students in Mr. McKinzie's Principles of Agriculture class had an engaging lesson where they curated their own beef jerky yesterday. They had the opportunity to put into practice objectives learned over the past few weeks in regard to HACCP, food safety, and food technology! Students had a lot of fun making their own marinades and using a consumer ballot to score each other's projects.

We are excited to announce that Jada Wise Padgett has been crowned as Miss Brownfield’s Teen and will be competing at the state level in June. Jada is using this platform to speak about mental health and suicide awareness and prevention. She will be a guest speaker this Tuesday on the radio station in Brownfield along with several other upcoming appearances in her new role. Jada is an absolutely fabulous Lady Warrior! The University of Texas Austin will require students to submit SAT or ACT scores starting with the upcoming application cycle. They are also adding an early action deadline of October 15, among other changes.
