Congratulations to 6th grader Marlowe Barnes--a National Champion!
After her 1st place win in the Daughters of the American Revolution 6th grade American History Essay Contest at the local level, she then placed first at state, first at the South Central Division level, and now we know she won 1st place at the National level, too! She will attend the DAR Continental Congress in Washington, D.C., in June, where she will be recognized and give a speech at the DAR Constitution Hall in front of 4,000 members and distinguished guests!
WOW! Way to go, Marlowe! A national champion! That is incredible!
This moment right here shows the true meaning of sisterhood at Talkington. Amarachi Uche-Eboh was named Miss THS, and the other candidates--Myranda Burchfield, Taylor Harrison, Ella Christianson, and Noura Islam-- jumped for joy. They ran over to hug her and celebrate her success. Pure joy for for their sister. It still brings tears to our eyes . This is absolutely what it means to be a Warrior.
If you are participating in athletics next year, you need an updated physical. Tomorrow, physicals will be held in the gym from 8:00 to 11:00 AM. Students at the ATC 1st-2nd period will need to go to the gym immediately upon arriving at Talkington. Good afternoon, Warriors! Tomorrow, May 2, after school parent pick-up will be held in front of campus along Ivory due to the Transitions Tailgate being held in the South and West parking lots. Please be mindful of school buses! Next Monday, May 5, parent pick-up will return to the South parking lot like usual.
Friday, May 2 is the Transitions Tailgate for incoming sixth graders who are joining our Talkington student body in August!
The Transitions Tailgate will be held in the South Lot. On Friday, May 2, after school parent pick-up will be held in front of the school on the north side of campus.
Families who are attending the tailgate should park in the South or West lots. If your child is attending the tailgate on her own, please make a pick-up plan when the event ends at 5:30pm.
This Friday is the last day to purchase yearbooks for $40. The price will increase to $45 next week.

CALLING ALL ATHLETES (incoming 6th graders-12th graders in sports and cheer):
You will ALL need to have a new physical before starting school! Community Health Center will provide sports physicals at Talkington on May 7th from 8:00am to 11:30am in the gym. Cost is $25, cash or check only. You must fill out paperwork in advance (permission slips and medical history). Coach McFarland has the forms in gym if you haven't picked them up see her or email her at karen.mcfarland@lubbockisd.org.
Talkington High School Athletic and Cheer Banquet will be held on May 6th!. Tickets will be sold Monday, April 28, Wednesday, April 30, and Friday, May 2 during lunch or you may purchase them from Mrs. Cortez during the day. If you have any questions please contact the front office.
