Violet Delano wins the American History Award!
The American History Award is given to one 8th grader a year who has demonstrated an exceptional work ethic, been an extraordinary classmate, shown a unique passion for the history of her country, and exceeded all of her teacher's expectations. The plaque hangs in the history hallway, displaying all of our previous winners. Congratulations, Violet! Thank you, Mr. S. and Mr. Mason, for your work teaching American history.

The Young Women’s Preparatory Network has selected our own Casey Wilkins as a YWPN Educators of Excellence Award winner. This incentive program was established to help celebrate the hard work and commitment of the educators serving the young women in the YWPN schools located throughout the state of Texas. The honorees were nominated by their principals and selected to undergo a rigorous selection process, which included a comprehensive application and an interview.
Mrs. Wilkins has been an educator for 16 years, 12 of those at Talkington. She teaches math, oversees our high school academic UIL Program, serves as senior class sponsor, and has been a department lead. She exhibits all of the wonderful traits this award seeks to recognize in quality educators. Talkington is very lucky to have such a dedicated, caring, and supportive teacher. She has changed so many lives and certainly deserves this award. Congratulations, Mrs. Wilkins.

Scholarship Winner!
Mackenzie Mason was awarded a $1000 scholarship for her excellent art and animation portfolio presented at the Texas Tech School of Art/LISD Scholarship Competition. In addition, she was also awarded a $250 scholarship to attend the TTU School of Art pre-immersion program this summer. These are just some of her fabulous images she created for this portfolio!

Students, you don't want to miss this!

To transition from a poetry unit to their Holocaust unit, students in Mrs. Fitzhugh's 8th grade ELA classes analyzed poetry from "I Never Saw Another Butterfly ... Children's Drawings and Poems from Terezin Concentration Camp." Students then designed a paper butterfly to represent the poem's themes, tone, and overall message. These students did an amazing job with their analysis and were able to showcase their artistic abilities. Thank you, Mrs. Fitzhugh, for providing such a powerful lesson. Great job, Warriors!

On May 20, we will have our final Academic Enrichment Day of the year. Our students have asked to have classes on life skills they will need as adults, and we are looking for experts to serve as teachers for these classes. If you are able to help, please sign up using the link on the flyer, or contact Brandi Couch at 806-219-2211.
