We are proud to see Class of 2026 working so hard to win! Way to cross that $4 million mark! 💰💵
Keep it up!
💥SENIORS: Check Google Classroom and the College Bound Scholarship Calendar for the scholarships due this month, and begin working on the ones with March deadlines as well!
Heads up, 6th-11th graders! 👀 Warriors in EVERY grade can work on scholarships. You should not wait until senior year to get serious about "getting that money," as Mrs. Couch says. You can access scholarship information in your grade level Classrooms.

Our 6th graders in pre-athletics had a 3-on-3 tournament to finish their basketball unit. Please congratulate Sydney Lippold, Lily Fletcher, and Ariana Panasci for winning in 3rd period, and Mae O'Brien, Daisy Rico, and Jennifer Chavez for winning in 6th period!

TWO SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOPS IN ONE NIGHT!
Students in all grade levels (6-12) are invited to join us for a scholarship essay writing workshop (part II of their College and Career lesson this month) on February 25 from 4:15-5:15 in the cafeteria.
After the workshop, we would love to have parents and guardians join us from 5:15-6:00 to discuss the entire scholarship application process and to help their child set goals for applying. We will look at college costs specific to your family to help determine the intensity with which your child needs to pursue scholarships. Free money is ALWAYS a good thing!
Students and their families who would like to join the meetings virtually may do so! Here's the Google Meet Link:
https://meet.google.com/tfm-ggiu-kwb
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Brandi.Couch@lubbockisd.org.

It is an absolute joy to officially welcome our newest member of the Talkington family, Nancy Miller, our new Registrar! As part of our front office team, Mrs. Miller will be working closely with our families, and we know everyone will love her!
While she may be “new” in title, she is certainly not new to Talkington. As a long-time, trusted, and faithful substitute, she already knows our students, our families, our culture, and our heart. We are beyond excited that she is now a permanent part of our Warrior family.
Over the past few years, she has faithfully served as a caregiver for her grandmother while also working part-time here at Talkington and raising 3 amazing children with her husband. She shared, “I am thrilled for the opportunity to now be full time here at Talkington! I have never seen a more dedicated staff or great group of young ladies!” We are so grateful that this season has brought her fully home to us.
Please join us in giving her a huge Talkington welcome as she steps into this role.

Congratulations to the 6 Writing Warriors selected to have works published in "Stranger Sagas" through Young Writers USA! This was a great intro for them in writing "mini-sagas" (100 words or less), along with an opportunity to have their works published in a real book!
We are so proud to have them representing Talkington and can't wait to see what they do next!
Shout out to our newly published writers and big thank you to Ms. A and Ms. Parker for your support of this writing group! 🎉🎉

Huge congratulations to Sierra Marston and Allison Phillips for representing our program well at the District CX tournament! They competed in 3 rounds with focus, grit, and professionalism — especially impressive for a first-year team. We are all proud of the work they put in and the way the students showed up and embraced excellence. The future is bright. 👏

Talkington School for Young Women Leaders invites you to join us in celebrating our AMAZING school counselors this week. Please comment below or reach out to them directly to let them know how much we appreciate their incredible work!
Our lead counselor, Sally Jackson, pours her heart and soul into this job to make sure our high school students are well taken care of. Beatrice Aguilar, our middle school counselor, gives all that she has to help our Warriors thrive!
These two definitely help Talkington reach new levels! Thank you for all you do!

Dear Lubbock ISD families & staff,
The Texas Education Agency requires all public schools in Texas to provide at least 75,600 minutes of instruction for students each school year. Any time a school day is canceled, started late or dismissed early, the district evaluates if there is a need for makeup days to ensure we meet the instructional minutes requirement for the school year.
After considering our three recent snow days (Friday, Monday and Tuesday of this week) and our late-start on Wednesday due to weather, we found that we will not need to make any schedule changes for our elementary and middle school students to meet the requirement. However, to ensure that we complete the required number of instructional minutes for our high school students, late-start Wednesdays are canceled for the rest of the spring semester, beginning this Wednesday (Feb. 4).
With this change, we will meet the instructional minutes requirement for all students across the district. This means that we will not need to use the student holiday on March 23 or the student and staff holiday on April 6 as makeup days – for now, these will remain as holidays.
If we experience more inclement weather this spring that requires cancelations, delays or early dismissals, we will reevaluate at that time to determine if schedule changes and/or make up days are needed.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Amanda Castro-Crist in our Communications & Community Relations department at (806) 219-0014.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kathy Rollo
Superintendent, Lubbock ISD

🎉 Texas History Day at Talkington 🎉
Yesterday, our 7th grade students showcased months of hard work at Texas History Day, presenting research projects that explored meaningful moments, people, and movements in Texas history. From exhibits and websites to documentaries, students demonstrated strong historical thinking, creativity, and confidence as they shared their learning with our judges. Mrs. Allison definitely prepared these students to present incredible work!
We are incredibly proud of the dedication our students showed throughout this process and grateful for the community judges who volunteered their time to support and encourage our historians.
Thank you to Westex Federal Credit Union for generously providing breakfast and lunch for our judges to help make this day a success.
Enjoy a glimpse of the outstanding projects and presentations from yesterday’s event!
