Winning Warriors!
We gave some prizes away to some lucky Warriors foday! Every day is a great day to be at Talkington.

The piano students are soooo close to their goal of 8,500 tickets! One and a half school days left to go. You can do it, ladies!

Literature comes alive in Mrs. Hamblin's 7th grade reading classes! Students performed scenes from The Picture of Dorian Gray, and as you can see from the smiles and the costumes, they really got into it. Students had 20 minutes to prepare their scenes, and it is absolutely amazing to see what they came up with in such a short time. Thank you, Mrs. Hamblin, for making learning fun, meaningful, and memorable.

The piano students have been hard at work earning tickets for the Piano Marvel Christmas Challenge fundraiser! We are well over halfway to our goal of 8,500 tickets. Keep it up, ladies!

We are looking for two science teachers for the spring semester. If you would like to work at the #1 school in LISD, please reach out to Aretha Cortez at 806-219-2200 or aretha.cortez@lubbockisd.org for the details.

Congratulations to our middle school spelling bee champions!
3rd place: Allison Phillips
2nd place: Charly Iaulualo
1st place: Obarita Aarushi
We are so proud of all 21 of our contestants! It took 34 rounds to declare a winner, and they had to spell some wild words!
Obarita will represent Talkington in the district bee next semester!

Our PTSA is the absolute BEST! Thank you for this delicious breakfast and the tree of gift cards! Such an amazing way to start the day. Thank you for all you do for our students and staff.

5th graders interested in Talkington are invited to join us for our leadership workshop on Tuesday, January 9. Students will engage in a variety of activities led by our high school and middle school Lady Warriors to improve their communication skills, their comfort with the transition to middle school, and their knowledge of Talkington.
Those interested in attending must register at https://forms.gle/NTzdfF4sGV48qU5v6 or scan the barcode on the flyer.
If you have any questions about the workshop, please contact our Student Council sponsor, Brandi Couch, at brandi.couch@lubbockisd.org or 806-219-2211.

Piano Marvel, the curriculum company used by Talkington, raises money for charities in Haiti and Mexico based on the number of Christmas pieces passed throughout the month of December. Over the weekend, Mr. Harris received a challenge from Piano Marvel specifically for the Talkington Piano Program asking us to reach 8,500 tickets by the end of December! Of course, we have accepted the challenge! We will keep you updated throughout the week on how we are progressing towards the goal.
Please see the following videos for information about the charities and the Talkington specific challenge:

We look forward to helping @pianomarvel reach their fundraising goals. We will update you at the end of each day so you can follow the progress of our students' learning.

AE DAY GAMES AND MUSICAL
The afternoon was filled with silly games and a fabulous performance of Into the Woods, Jr. It was so much fun challenging each other, sharing so many laughs. We were all super impressed by the musical--it was both shocking and hilarious--and our Lady Warriors did a phenomenal job! It was the perfect end to a wonderful day of learning and spending time with each other.

AE DAY ALUMNI SUPPORT
It was absolutely wonderful to have our alumni return to campus for AE Day. Many of them spent the day with us, from watching the Lip Sync Battle to presenting in the Alumni Fair, to a lunch meeting with our College Success Advisor, to watching our musical, alumni had a full day of being back at home. Teachers and students were so excited to see them, and we are so grateful for the knowledge they shared with us. You are welcome back anytime!

AE DAY COMMUNITY SERVICE FAIR
Service learning is a big part of what makes Talkington so special, so we wanted to provide our students the opportunity to find new organizations to serve and new ways to give back to the community through this fair. We had 15 organizations in attendance, and we cannot thank the service groups enough for their wonderful presentations and hands-on experiences. Our Lady Warriors will no doubt use this networking experience to find volunteer activities that make the most of their talents and interests to better our community and the lives of others. What an amazing event!

AE DAY MULTICULTURAL FAIR
Students were able to learn from their classmates and members of the community in a variety of informational and hands-on presentations celebrating cultural diversity. Huge thanks to the students in Mrs. Garcia's classes for being the first to come on board for this activity. Thank you to all students and our community members who agreed to support our students' learning. It was a fabulous part of our AE experience. From dancing to games to crafts to original artifacts, this fair had everything! It also fits right in with our pledge to be a No Place for Hate School! Talkington is really the best place to be.

AE DAY LIP SYNC BATTLE
After making kindness card shout-outs for teachers and friends, we moved into the auditorium for some wild entertainment, as student organizations and friend groups came together for a lip sync battle. Thank you to all who participated and to the audiences for supporting their sisters (and a few brave teachers) on the stage.

AE DAY SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Thanks to Alex Brock (Class of 2023) who created a successful fundraiser and partnership with WRiTE BRAiN Books, we now have 20 Lady Warriors who are published authors! They received their books after a lovely video introduction from Meredith Scott Lynn, the founder and CEO. We are so proud of this accomplishment!

You are looking at the NEW District FFA Treasurer, Rylie Delagarza! We are so very proud of this amazing Lady Warrior! We know she will do great things with this leadership opportunity.
