Literature comes alive in Mrs. Hamblin's 7th grade reading classes! Students performed scenes from The Picture of Dorian Gray, and as you can see from the smiles and the costumes, they really got into it. Students had 20 minutes to prepare their scenes, and it is absolutely amazing to see what they came up with in such a short time. Thank you, Mrs. Hamblin, for making learning fun, meaningful, and memorable.

Piano Marvel, the curriculum company used by Talkington, raises money for charities in Haiti and Mexico based on the number of Christmas pieces passed throughout the month of December. Over the weekend, Mr. Harris received a challenge from Piano Marvel specifically for the Talkington Piano Program asking us to reach 8,500 tickets by the end of December! Of course, we have accepted the challenge! We will keep you updated throughout the week on how we are progressing towards the goal. Please see the following videos for information about the charities and the Talkington specific challenge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itxYetGDwOc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7ly7WprgzE We look forward to helping @pianomarvel reach their fundraising goals. We will update you at the end of each day so you can follow the progress of our students' learning.

AE DAY GAMES AND MUSICAL The afternoon was filled with silly games and a fabulous performance of Into the Woods, Jr. It was so much fun challenging each other, sharing so many laughs. We were all super impressed by the musical--it was both shocking and hilarious--and our Lady Warriors did a phenomenal job! It was the perfect end to a wonderful day of learning and spending time with each other.

AE DAY ALUMNI SUPPORT It was absolutely wonderful to have our alumni return to campus for AE Day. Many of them spent the day with us, from watching the Lip Sync Battle to presenting in the Alumni Fair, to a lunch meeting with our College Success Advisor, to watching our musical, alumni had a full day of being back at home. Teachers and students were so excited to see them, and we are so grateful for the knowledge they shared with us. You are welcome back anytime!

AE DAY COMMUNITY SERVICE FAIR Service learning is a big part of what makes Talkington so special, so we wanted to provide our students the opportunity to find new organizations to serve and new ways to give back to the community through this fair. We had 15 organizations in attendance, and we cannot thank the service groups enough for their wonderful presentations and hands-on experiences. Our Lady Warriors will no doubt use this networking experience to find volunteer activities that make the most of their talents and interests to better our community and the lives of others. What an amazing event!

AE DAY MULTICULTURAL FAIR Students were able to learn from their classmates and members of the community in a variety of informational and hands-on presentations celebrating cultural diversity. Huge thanks to the students in Mrs. Garcia's classes for being the first to come on board for this activity. Thank you to all students and our community members who agreed to support our students' learning. It was a fabulous part of our AE experience. From dancing to games to crafts to original artifacts, this fair had everything! It also fits right in with our pledge to be a No Place for Hate School! Talkington is really the best place to be.

AE DAY LIP SYNC BATTLE After making kindness card shout-outs for teachers and friends, we moved into the auditorium for some wild entertainment, as student organizations and friend groups came together for a lip sync battle. Thank you to all who participated and to the audiences for supporting their sisters (and a few brave teachers) on the stage.

Weekly Announcements DONATIONS NEEDED: Please bring stuffed animals to donate to the Boys and Girls Ranch to brighten the lives of many children. You can take your donations to the library. Each grade level also has an item to bring for Hope Lodge. Check Classroom for details. The FFA is collecting used jeans or denim. Turn those in to room 109. NJSH: A reminder to all NJHS members of the mandatory community service THIS Saturday at the East Lubbock Art House from 10:00-12:00. Refer to Google Classroom and the last meeting's agenda for more details. SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE: Seniors have passed the $5 million dollar mark! They now have $5,428,152 in scholarship offers. So far, the most consistently generous college has been Austin College, offering most students $120,000. We have a partnership with them through YWPN, so they have special money just for us! Austin College is definitely worth looking into. OPPORTUNITY: Mrs. Henricks, in the Library, is looking for any middle school students who might be interested in competing on Talkington's UIL Dictionary Skills team. We will have a quick meeting, December 19th right after school to discuss what dictionary skills is all about. If you can't make the meeting, please see Mrs. Henricks by December 21st. CANDY GRAMS: This is the last week to purchase a candy gram. Middle School Student Council will be selling at all lunch periods or you can buy from Mr. Mason in Room 110. Make your friend's day with a sweet treat that will be delivered on the last week of the semester. BASKETBALL: Our Lady Warriors came up short last night after a hard fought game with a score of 38-29. Zyriel Hawkins was lead scorer with 14 points followed by Yaviyah Brown with 7 points. Great job ladies! AE DAY: For AE Day this Friday, you will not need your Chromebook or classwork. Just bring a tote bag or skinny backpack with a notebook, pencil, and maybe colored pens or markers for the craft activities. You may also bring a water bottle and a sack lunch if you want. We will be serving hamburgers only on AE. If you have any questions about AE, see Mrs. Couch.
