Francisca Marquez is a QuestBridge College Match Scholarship recipient! Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, selected Francisca, and as a result, she will attend college on a full-ride scholarship. This year, QuestBridge had over 20,800 applicants this year, and 2,242 students were named Match Scholarship Recipients. We are beyond proud of Francisca and know she will continue to do great things.

Please help us support the Texas Boys and Girls Ranch with your donations of a stuffed animal. We will present our donations to the team from the Texas Boys and Girls Ranch when they come to our community service fair at AE day on December 15. Take all donations to the library.

We hope you can all join us for a fabulous day of piano recitals on Wednesday, December 13, in the Talkington auditorium from 8:20am-4:00pm. This is a free event!
Our students will amaze you with their skills--no doubt!

Help our students raise money for prom by playing Bingo during lunches on December 14. Each Bingo card is only $1. Prizes will be awarded!
Bonus: That is the day of the 6th grade holiday lunch, so families can play, too!

Congratulations to our fabulous Academic Decathlon team for their work at the city meet yesterday. Shout out to these top performing students:

Great job, Lady Warriors!

Yesterday, five teams from Talkington competed in the Young Women's Preparatory Network STEAM Challenge. We are so proud of these Lady Warriors for designing such incredible projects--and a big thanks to our panel of judges and to their coaches, Mrs. Doyal and Mrs. Farrell.
Two teams will be advancing to the next phase of the competition in Dallas: In middle school, Team Eckert and Mauchly (Obarita Aarushi and Allison Phillips) and in high school, The STEAM Engines (Abigail Agee, Nasmah Islam, Shelby Davis, and Maliyah Rodriguez-Rader). Great job ladies!

Talkington artwork is headed to the state capitol!
Lubbock ISD selected 8 pieces to compete in the Texas Art Education Association Youth Art Month State Capitol Exhibit contest, and we are proud to say that two Lady Warriors had their work chosen!
Congratulations to Zuda Schwilk (8th grader), Anna Rees (12th grader), and their teachers Mrs. Bell and Ms. Avery-Moore, for their amazing work.
There will be one more round of judging to determine which pieces make it into the capitol exhibit. We will keep you posted. Good luck, Warriors!

On December 2nd, National Special Education Day recognizes the important work that led to the nation's first federal special education law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which went into law on this day in 1975. IDEA granted access to free and quality public education for students of all abilities and needs. The act has been revised over the years, but it remains the foundation for special education in the U.S. Talkington is proud to support this act, recognize this important day, and empower all students to achieve success.

Everyone is talking about how AMAZING this show is! Don't miss your chance to see our Lady Warriors perform. Two chances left: tonight at 7:00 and Sunday at 2:00.
Tickets are only $5! Great entertainment at an affordable price!

Our next Big Family event will be a holiday movie night! We would love all 6th graders, students new to Talkington, and high school big sisters to join us in the choir room from 4:10-5:30 on Wednesday, December 13. The DI teams will be selling concessions, so please bring cash to support their fundraising. If you have any questions talk to a Student Council member or Mrs. Couch at brandi.couch@lubbockisd.org. This event is free to attend, and only open to members of Talkington's Big Families. Students attending the event may wear sweats to school that day.

Only a few more days until we get to meet our future Lady Warriors and their families at the Talkington Magnet Program Open House! We look forward to seeing you all Tuesday, December 5, from 6:00-7:30 pm. This come-and-go event will include campus tours, provide families the opportunity to meet our teachers and preview the curriculum, and allow families to ask any questions they may have. We know you'll love our school as much as we do. We hope to see you there!

Please consider donating new or gently used books to the free little libraries around town. You can bring your books to the front office at Talkington. The book drive officially ends Monday, but we can always take book donations!
Side note: The Mahon Library is having its used book sale today until 2:00. They sell most books for $1. Huge selection! Books make great holiday gifts. Restock your shelves today.

Congratulations to Christine Spears and Zoe Summerford, our Talkington volunteers of the month! We are so proud of your service learning accomplishments!
Did you know that service learning is a requirement at Talkington? Students will volunteer for at least 42 hours before they graduate high school. Mrs. Cardelli works hard to find great opportunities for our Lady Warriors. Just another reason Talkington is such a special place to be!

Today is the first day of Human Rights Month, and Talkington Student Council chose today to start the No Place for Hate initiative. We want to promote understanding and respect for all by speaking out against prejudice. Students signed a pledge to commemorate the start of this project. As the pledge states, no one can be an "innocent" bystander when it comes to prejudice. We are proud of our students for taking this project on.

We are pleased to invite 6th graders and their families to Holiday Lunch at Talkington.

On Friday, December 15, Talkington will host its first Academic Enrichment Day this year, and we need your help. We are looking for service organizations to take part in our Community Service Fair, and we are looking for people willing to host booths or lead activities in our Multicultural Fair. In addition, we want our alumni to come back to speak to our students and staff. Finally, we need parent/family volunteers to help monitor students, especially at lunch time, so that our teachers can have their lunch break.
If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact Brandi Couch at brandi.couch@lubbockisd.org.
